Yeah I think this election I'm going to get involved within my local politics, and guess who I plan on joining uh somewhat, maybe infiltrating is a better word. Lets face it there are basically two parties and a third player that will probaly never get anywhere and any indepent or constitutionalist party will never get media coverage so we have to deal with the big two if you really want to do something on some level that won't be in vain. I'm not a republican but more or less a staunch conservative. I can't stand the direction the democrats are going in so I think it's time to at least try and do something. Who says you can't have a conservative democrat that is pro military and basically to shorten it up the opposite on just about everything the libs stand for. Hell they did it and called themselves moderates because the liberal title was getting a bad rap do to the liberals, well anyways It's just some crazy thought I had that I'm seriously pondering.

Ah professor. I'm not telling you what to think, but I wish I could talk you out of this, and here's why; Unless you are thinking of running for office, you won't influence the Democrat party in a conservative way. Can you see the reason for this? Let's look at it logically...

If you vote for a Democrat and end up placing a Democrat senator or congressman in power, you end up risking putting the entire party in power by giving them a critical seat in the house or Senate….or God-forbid, the presidency. The Democrat party is controlled by radical liberal extremists..or socialists at the moment. In effect what you would be doing by your vote for a Democrat, is risking putting liberals back in the majority. This will not move the party in a conservative direction. If liberals get the presidency back, or the House or the Senate, they will likely destroy the country at this critical point in history. Look to California, and tell me if you like what has happened here…and then tell me why you want a Democrat in power…..

Do you disagree with this reasoning?

Don't Professor, and here is why:

I just filled out the absentee ballot for this year with a check mark, indicating;
that I will vote in the Republican primary.

First time in almost ten years.

Why?
In 2000, I got my absentee ballot on the saturday before the election.
Dropped in the mailbox by our mailman at about 11:30 am.
My wife piled the mail on a table while we read the local paper.
Notice in the paper said all absentee ballots had to be returned 'by mail' to the county Courthouse by noon that day.
(the same day I got mine 30 minutes before noon)
We lived about 14 blocks from the courthouse.

I made a call and hand delivered the ballot and demanded a receipt.
Later FOX News repoerted our county's absentee ballots were never even opened.
All those FOX News employees got fired/BTW)

Neighborw who had voted in the Republican primary told me they had gotten their absentee ballots a full week before I got mine.
Other Democrats also reported getting their too late to mail them back in.

In 2002, the same situation was repeated.

Republican ballots are mailed out two weeks before the election. Democratic ballots are mailed out the Friday before the election.
Standard (election fixing) Operating Procedure, here in southeast Bushylvania.

another bad side (for you) is that, I was told to change sides:
Registered as a Democrat in 1992, just to run a
FAUX "Democrats For ..." organization in 1992.

I ended up still being a Republican insider, but met and discussed with hundreds of Americans who put America first, and politics last.
Democrats.

A totally opposite view to the Republicans' "Rule or Ruin" that took over in 1994.

don't expose yourself to the truth Professor.
Don't consort with those outside th ecult of conservatism.
That path leads into the light of individual freedom of choice.

Don't listen to John McGlaughlin and his ilk who say the right wing has become too extreme.

It's easier to let Rush or George Will do your thinking for you.

We poor Liberals have to think for ourselves.

Take the low road and stay a Republican.

There are way too few thinking Republicans,
and way too many braindead dittoheads.

The right wing needs intelligent people professor.

A big broom went through the left in the mid 1990's.

Heavily infiltrated Democrats already choose losers like Lieberman.
why?
Because the Republicans follow the leaders:

"The best way to handle dissent is to lead it ourselves."-VI Lenin

The Democratic Leadership Council is the Republican National Committee's proof that they follow Lenin.

FW, yeah I have to agree with that, I couldn't think of a way to go about it without having to trample what I know to be right. It was a thought probaly not a good one being it was a late night thing.
I don't quite grip a total understanding Shat but do see your reasoning and some good points. I think I'll just forget I ever started this thread.

One point though Professor.

The top down structure of the Republicans makes it difficult for members to
influence the agenda of the party.

Democrats, one and all, each believe that
s/he is the only one who knows best.

Those who show up at meetings and
become actively involved can easily assume leadership positions in the Party structure.

since changing sides,
I've become able to influence the agenda on a local (city and county) and state level,
at a very low cost.

At Democratic gatherings:
(Former?) Republicans are welcomed along with Greens, Natural Law, Constitution Party, Libertarians. (Note: avowed Socialists and Communists are usually booed out of the gatherings)

Former Republicans:
Zeal of a convert category-
>Barbara Honegger

Trained to hate Democrats but learned to distrust Republicans category-

Pat Buchannon
(who coined the phrase: "King George" in referring to Bush (the first))

Arianna Huffington

Jim Jeffords
