My mother called Barry Goldwater and got me a position in the Arizona National guard.
I dissapointed her by enlisting in the US Army and volunteering for the Nam.I remember only five names of those in my company.
Of those whom I was close to (more brothers to me than my parents' other son)
I remember the names of several who are now dead.
Those calls from people who call me 'the guy who saved my life' are almost ended.
Only one of them still remains alive.
I do however recall,
during my days campaigning for congressman George HW Bush (R) TX
the youngest son:
"dumb-as-dirt-Dubya'
who cost his dad the primary...
when Ron Paul ran a campaign against the congressman who couldn't keep his own son off cocaine.
I remember the way the draft dodgers treated those of us who served.
i also remember the snide comments from National Guardsmes 9who still had several years of weekends to serve)
when I came home with a severe limp and a medical/honerable discharge.
They (who had never dodged a single bullet)
called me lucky, and told me how fortunate I was to only lose the use of one leg.
They after all, lost many weekends.
Except for bush, who never had to actually show up.
tjhose people I knew who missed Guard weekends, got active duty imposed upon them immediately...
except for the sons of wealth and priviledge, that is.
I drink a toast to those who died, in my place,
I curse those who evaded honest service.
may Bush burn in hell for all eternity,
rush Limbaugh, and Newt Gingrich alongside him.
To those honest Democrats like Gore and Kerry who could have evaded active duty,
but chose instead to risk thier lives alongside the rest of us:
I give my efforts and monies to put you few honest people in positions of power that you may continue to serve america;
And continue to oppose those rightwing "chicken-hawks"
who never risked thier own lives,
but are ever so willing to send others to their deaths.
there are now two parties in america:
the Democrats
and
the Hypocrites
(anyone who wants to quote this old broke down {service-connected} disabled veteran/ please correct my spelling/ I no longer have the patience to do so)
