Spain: Van, Detonators, Quran Tapes Found

MADRID, Spain - Police found a van Thursday with detonators and an Arabic-language audio tape with Quranic verses and officials investigating the Madrid bombings that killed 192 people said they weren't ruling out anything, Interior Minister Angel Acebes said.

Meanwhile, a London-based Arabic newspaper, Al-Quds al-Arabi, said it had received a claim of responsibility for the Madrid train bombings issued by The Brigade of Abu Hafs al-Masri in the name of al-Qaida.

The van, found in Alcala de Henares, 15 miles outside Madrid, was stolen from the city Feb. 28. On the front seat, police found seven detonators and the tape, Acebes told a news conference.

"Because of this, I have just given instructions to the security forces not to rule out any line of investigation," Acebes said.

The armed Basque group ETA remained the "main line of investigation" in the blasts, he said. With the van find "all kinds of lines investigation open up," Acebes said.

Acebes said the death toll from the Thursday rush hour bombings had risen to 192.

Three of the four trains bombed Thursday originated in Alcala de Henares and one passed through it, the state rail company RENFE said.

Arnoldo Otegi, leader of an outlawed Basque political party linked to ETA, said earlier Thursday that he did not think ETA was behind the blasts, suggesting "Arab resistance" elements were involved.

Spain backed the U.S.-led war in Iraq (news - web sites).

The claim received by email at the paper's London offices said the brigade's "death squad" had penetrated "one of the pillars of the crusade alliance, Spain."

"This is part of settling old accounts with Spain, the crusader, and America's ally in its war against Islam," the claim said.

In an audiotape released in October, a voice purported to be Osama bin Laden (news - web sites) threatened countries that are helping the American occupation of Iraq.

"We reserve the right to respond at the appropriate time and place against all the countries participating in this unjust war, particularly Britain, Spain, Australia, Poland, Japan and Italy," the voice said.

What is sad about the event, besides innocent lives lost, is the fact that 90% of the Spanish public were opposed to their intervention with Iraq, and siding with with BushLaden Productions. The Perp, Aziz, is safe and sound, while 9 out 10 people who were opposed to him are dead.

Spain Vows to Pull Soldiers Out of Iraq

MADRID, Spain - The leader of Spain's victorious Socialists said Monday he will withdraw his nation's support for the U.S.-led occupation of Iraq (news - web sites), restating a campaign promise a day after his party won elections overshadowed by terrorist bombings.

Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, calling the war that ousted Saddam Hussein (news - web sites) an "error," said he would recall Spanish troops from Iraq by June 30 unless the United Nations (news - web sites) assumes control of multinational military operations there.

In a surprise defeat, Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar's conservatives on Sunday became the first government that backed Washington in Iraq to be voted from office. The election came amid charges that Aznar made Spain a target for terrorists by supporting the war, and that his government concealed possible connections between the attack and Islamic terrorists for political gain.

Thursday's train bombings — the worst terrorist attacks in Spain's history — killed 200 people and wounded some 1,500.

"The military intervention was a political error for the international order, for the search for cooperation, for the defense of the United States," Zapatero said, adding that Spain would maintain "cordial" relations with Washington.

"It divided more than it united, there were no reasons for it, time has shown that the arguments for it lacked credibility and the occupation has been managed badly."

He refused Monday to set a date for a possible withdrawal of Spain's 1,300 troops in Iraq, saying only that one would be set after he takes over as prime minister some weeks from now.

"I have said clearly in recent months that, unless there is a change in that the United Nations take control and the occupiers give up political control, the Spanish troops will come back, and the limit for their presence there is June 30," he said.

U.S. authorities said Monday they believe al-Qaida had a role in the Madrid attacks. Police also were investigating a possible link between the bombings in Spain and attacks in Casablanca last year, focusing on a Moroccan arrested in Spain over the weekend, a Moroccan official told The Associated Press.

In Sunday's election, the Socialists defeated the ruling Popular Party, jumping from 125 seats to 164 in the 350-member Congress of Deputies. The conservatives fell from 183 to 148.

The Spanish stock market shuddered over news that Socialists will take power, with the benchmark Ibex-35 stock index dropping 2.4 percent at the opening bell. It was down 3.2 percent shortly after noon local time.

The conservatives' defeat was unexpected. Pre-election polls had projected the Popular Party, led by Mariano Rajoy, would win comfortably, and even some exit polls Sunday showed it might win.

But when the ballots were tallied, the Socialists netted 10.9 million to the PP's 9.6 million. Turnout was 77 percent.

Zapatero ran for the first time for prime minister against an entrenched government and won. "That broke a lot of precedents," party campaign manager Jose Blanco said Monday.

The circumstances were exceptional.

The train bombings were followed by nationwide street rallies against the attacks, smaller ones against Aznar's increasingly beleaguered government and the arrest of five suspects in the bombings, including three Moroccans, and a reported al-Qaida claim of responsibility in a videotape.

The tape raised the possibility that terrorists aligned with Osama bin Laden (news - web sites) had changed the course of a national election. Spain's government has insisted its prime suspect in Thursday's rail bombings was the armed Basque separatist group ETA.

Zapatero said Monday he would attempt to form a purely Socialist government, not a coalition with other parties.

Late Sunday, Zapatero started his victory speech by remembering those killed in the railway bombings. "At this moment I think of the lives that were broken by terror on Thursday," he said, then asked the crowd to join him in a minute of silence.

"My most immediate priority will be to fight terrorism," he said. The Spanish Socialist Workers Party ruled from 1982 to 1996 but ran afoul of corruption scandals and was voted out in 1996, when Aznar took power.

Savoring victory again, 1,000 jubilant supporters cheered and waved the party's red flag Sunday outside Socialist headquarters. But they, too, mourned those killed in the railway blasts. "Not all of us are here. Two hundred are missing," the crowd shouted.

"I think the party won because of people's frustration people about the Popular Party getting us into the war in Iraq," said one of them, housewife Loli Carrasco Gomez, 36.

Of the troops in Iraq, she said: "I hope they all come home and never go back."

I have always wonder if the world turned in it's current direction more from greed or if something is about to go down cosmically that is forcing these people to play their hand.

On Sept 30th we are going to have a mile and a half wide asteroid come withing 2 to 3 distances of the moon to us. Was 911 a signal to an inner class system of people of an upcomming disaster? 911 could also mean 9 planets and 11 years sun cycles. 911 itself represents danger! Did they institute the marshal laws, underground gov. and greed because THEY are in fear?

Will they try and force the asteroid to hit while they are underground?

I think with the lack of space migration projects, the "Back Door" escape has been shut, and people will lean towards other "Metaphysical" means of escape, such as astral traveling, angels, seances, even aliens, Drugs, drinking, sex, and violence are the more conventional methods of escape. Do any of these more far out things exist? Let's say I am a bit more pragmatic, and will be skeptical, but would never rule anything 100% out, the way some of these debunkers do.

Perhaps the psionic people and animals can tap into Hyperspace, outside normal physical space, and Linear Time.
