This is NOT meant to create controversy but I've been wondering for awhile... Is the United States and/or Americans somehow better than the rest of the world? And if so, why or in what form?

As most of you know, I'm an American but have lived almost a decade in Mexico. I've also visited Colombia and Ecuador in the past. We (Americans) may often be hated by the world, but we are also envied. Whether anyone agrees with the accuracy, we are also the symbol of democracy and freedom in the world. Heck, last year I was playing Pictionary with some Mexican friends and the word that my partner had to "draw" was "democracy." He drew the American flag.

It cannot be disputed that we are the strongest country, militarily, on the face of the earth currently or at any time in history.

It cannot be disputed that we are also the strongest country, economically, on the face of the earth. We have the highest per capita income of any significant country in the world (the one or two that have a higher per capita income are very small and only have slightly higher incomes).

Having visited Colombia and Ecuador and having lived in Mexico for the last decade I can assure you that our standard of living is much higher and people in the U.S., even if they aren't rich, have much more enjoyable lives than people in any of these countries.

People are generally more honest, be it out of fear of being "caught" or because its our nature, in the United States than in Mexico.

Corporations, for all the bad rap they get (much of it jusitifed) do a much better job at keeping their customers happy in the U.S. than in Mexico. The level of customer service is worlds apart. In Mexico, companies literally will look for reasons to deny you service. In the U.S. companies will often go out of their way to take care of you. I recently had to have my Honda serviced for something that could feasibly have been my fault but which was actually caused by the dealership when I first bought the car. I had no proof. I took it to Honda in Mexico and they said that they couldn't help me because I might have broken it myself. I took it to a dealership in the U.S. and they fixed it free of charge, no questions asked.

I've lived both inside and outside the United States. Things are better in the United States. That's a fact. My question is WHY? Are we, as Americans, somehow better people? Are we more honest? Or do we just live in fear of being caught lying? Why are things better in the United States than in other countries? Did we just get lucky? Did we oppress other countries such that our good fortune was at the cost of citizens of other countries? If that's the case, how could the same corrupt people that would oppress other countries not be just as corrpupt within our own country? Why are other countries cronically so much more corrupt than our own? What is it that is different?

I guess my question is... what is or has made the United States as great as it is?

PS--I hope this is not an invitation to blast the United States or Bush or joke about how or government is corrupt. I know we have our problems. But having lived outside the United States for so long, believe me, our problems pale in comparison to those of other countries. Corruption in the U.S. is virtually non-existant compared to Mexico. The United States is definitely doing something right to be in the position that it is. I'm interested in hearing what everyone thinks we're doing right to be where we are?

Does no-one really have an opinion on this? Some feedback would be appreciated. Despite BoomerChick's concerns, I am not baiting here. I'm curious.

I think AMERICAN CITIZENS are doing great and most of them want an HONEST, UNCORRUPTED government.

American GOVERNMENT is 150% CORRUPT, BOUGHT and PAID FOR by the GLOBALISTS and international bankers (crime syndicates) who could CARE LESS what happens to Americas future...because as far as they're concerned they will simply MOVE ON and EXPLOIT
what they want, where they want.
American currency 35 cents below the Euro is a SURE sign that we are headed for a PAN AMERICAN UNION and OUR CURRENCY will soon be a thing of the past...along with OUR SOVEREIGNTY

NAFTA/GATT is GLOBAL GOVERNMENT and is DESTROYING NATIONAL sovereignty, constitutional law and laws American soldiers and citizens fought TOOTH AND NAIL to put in place.IT MEANS any global corporation can NUKE any nations soverein laws to FAVOR GLOBAL CORPORATIONS...this is FUEDALISM and
WE ARE THEIR "SERFS".

This GOVERNMENT IS GUILTY OF LYING to start ILLEGAL WARS, COVERING UP prior knowlage claims about SEPT. 11th and THREATING those individuals who are whistleblowers. WE ARE LOSING OUR FREEDDOMS thanks to UNCONSTITUTIONAL LEGISLATION like the Patriot ACT, our POLICE are merging WITH the MILITARY to practice DOOR TO DOOR SEARCHES and establish SOVIET-STYLE CHECKPOINS (May I see your papers please?). Our country is headed for a HIGH TECH cashless society SLAVE GRID, where EVERYTHING YOU DO, WHAT YOU BUY, WHERE YOU GO,YOUR BANK RECORDS, WHO YOU TALK TO will be monitored BY the government(Total information awareness/NSA/CIA/FBI) and the Government has TOTAL SECRECY.

WE ARE LOSING OUR COUNTRY LETXA....only someone wrapped up tight in a desecrated commie chinese slave made American Flag would think we werent.

WAKE UP.

(Or will you DISREGARD everything you see here as you ALWAYS do?)

I'll bet on the second.

The inevitable future economic collapse in the US can be attributed to the following causes, all related to outsourcing. Sure these business's will find profit in this tactic for awhile. But as jobs become increasingly scarce and wages plummet, who's going to buy their crap, huh? Not the typical American standing in the unemployment line or working for a sub-standard wage. Not the Chinese who are ripping off OUR OWN copyrights and illegally selling OUR OWN designs for half the price. All the while our corporate leaders still rush to this country to be betrayed over and over again? Soon these greedy bastards will put themselves out of order and our country will no longer be a global superpower.

The Future Unemployment Boom - The Outsourcing of American Jobs to India & Elsewhere -

Financial Fantasies
By Chase Morrison

Here in 2009, the unemployment office beckons. Inside you see not the disheveled computer programmers and office clerks. Instead, there are men here with custom tailored suits, speaking into wristwatches that double as cell phones. Echelons of shoulder pads and Starbucks impede your vision. Has the corporate executive finally been phased out? Or have the companies found something better, thus, cheaper?

During the generation of our grandparents, careers lasted for lifetimes. A man could spend 40 years working the same job and safely retire; this is no longer the case. The average stay of a person in one job is less than five years in present-day America. Jobs are becoming more and more coveted and workers more insecure, as they could be fired and replaced in no time.

Outsourcing is a growing trend in America - it is now all the rage. It amounts to a huge cost reduction for businesses, and thousands of lay-offs for the American workers. Outsourcing is the process in which businesses look for cheaper work in labour pools other than the norm. In the case of America, outsourcing means going overseas to look for workers. The advantage in this arrangement is obvious: Why pay a software engineer $90,000 a year when you can pay an engineer in India, who is equally capable, $20,000 a year?

It is being called globalization's next wave. Because of instant communication and high-speed data transfer rates it is now possible not to have a traditional office, but rather a collection of individuals connected on a broadband-powered network. It is now possible to have your main office in New York (in fact, you don't even need an office), and have all your software written in India and sent to you in less than 10 minutes. Your Indian co-workers will work for 60% less than any software designer in the United States. The United States has always had the attitude and the ill-conceived notion that the States is the only country in the world that retains the intelligence and experience to work with advanced technology. Now, with university attendance up tremendously all around the world, thousands upon thousands of young minds are being added to the world's burgeoning labour pools. This influx of labour coupled with the worldwide recession is driving down wages and failing businesses are looking for innovative ways to make a buck. Enter: Outsourcing.

The trend of outsourcing in America began almost twenty years ago with jobs such as the manifacturing of shoes, cheap electronics (we've all seen the logo - ' Made in Taiwan '), and the making of toys. Now that high speed Internet has been made available there has been a frenzy of hiring across the oceans from companies in the United States. Now, even corporations like Microsoft and Intel are moving jobs overseas at a breakneck pace. Designing software and microprocessors are things that can be done just as well overseas as in America - and for nearly half the cost!

Currently, a battle rages through the United States Congress on the future of outsourcing. Many of the congressman believe outsourcing to be a threat to the American working man, and seek to place limits on the hiring of non-US residents. The battle over outsourcing is heating up as many groups are working to prevent congress from placing limits or rulings on the economics of outsourcing. According to C. Srinivasan, head of offshore operations in India for Electronic Data Systems Corp, Indian software companies deliver savings of more than 60% to US companies, fostering growth and creating new jobs. No matter where people stand on this issue, it is a good bet that outsourcing will continue to grow in popularity, and as C. Srinivasan puts it "In the next three to five years, The India solution will be a critical part of every portfolio." This seems very likely, as businesses will always seek to cut spending to foster productivity and profit.

The blame does not fall alone on the cost-cutting corporations. According to many experts and special interest groups, the Bush administration in particular seems to have its' fingers crossed whenever it speaks of job growth. Just this September George Bush happily signed into law the Singapore and Chile Free Trade Agreements. As Bush noted in his press conference during the signing: "I'm honored to sign into the law these two pieces of legislation, implementing our free trade agreements with our friends Chile and Singapore". However, many sources paint a completely different picture of these agreements. Project USA, an immigration-reform organization, was quoted in saying: "The Chile/Singapore free-trade agreements will allow 'American' corporations to move an unlimited number of 'employees' from those countries to ours...With 18 million Americans struggling to find full-time employment, the Bush administration has no business making agreements with foreign nations to flood the labor market with an unlimited amount of imported labor". With unemployment at its' highest in years, the Bush administration claims they are doing everything they can to foster job growth. Meanwhile, they are signing legislation such as the Chile/Signapore FTAs quietly in the background. Rob Sanchez, a critic of work-visa abuse, commented in May, 2002: "Once these agreements are passed, American workers will be powerless to stop the flood of workers that will arrive to compete with them in the job market". The corporations are not given sole blame in the flurry of outsourcing that is contributing to American job losses; The Bush administration continues to astound economists and workers alike with their labour policies. The Bush administration continues to foster its' agenda based on deals and breaks for corporation, while the American workers are handed the bill. Syndicated columnist Phyllis Schlafly places the blame quite squarely on the Bush administration: "What makes this racket possible is the parternship between corporations and the government,". The Bush administration is clearly taking backwards leaps when it comes to job growth and economic revival.

If you believe that you are immune to all this about outsourcing, being that you are too high on the totem pole to be affected - then you are dead wrong. Firms such as Lehman Brothers and Bear and Stearns, for example, are beginning to use financial analysts from India for accounting and stock picking. In fact, one man I've recently interviewed puts things in perspective. "Don't think the people at the unemployment office are stupid. I know many people there, and many of them have degrees from schools such as Harvard and Yale, and MBAs from Wharton. In fact, one man I know has two degrees from Harvard and is now working the returns counter at Home Depot. Why? Because he can't find work anywhere else." John C. McCarthy of Forrester Research Inc. was recently quoted in Business Week's premiere article on outsourcing: "You will see an explosion of work going overseas," says McCarthy. He predicts that 3.3 million white collar jobs alone and $136 million of wages will move overseas by 2015. Making things worse, this hiring spree overseas is coinciding with massive corporate layoffs happening right here at home as we slip deeper in the recession. Our days of security and oneupsmanship in the job market may be numbered.

Know-This, if you are going to spam a thread with long cut and paste posts, you should do it like Halva is doing over on the Arianna on-line forum, translate it into a foreign language!

No fato, um homem I've entrevistado recentemente põe coisas no perspective.

So vital information regarding the deterioration of our country is spam? Wolf, I know you find comfort within your state of denial. But reality is going to smack you right in the face one of these days like it or not. I’m just preparing you & you ought to thank me.

And the subject happens to be the United States, not Halva, so who’s really spamming with off topic material? In fact, judging from your last few posts you seem consumed by this character, quite sick!

Excellent response Mech! And good article Know-This!

I’d just like to make one point. I believe that what we’ve allowed our society but especially the majority of the men become, will one day break this wonderful country. I posted this article once, but feel it’s worth visiting again. If our Founding Fathers could see us now, they’d surely shake their heads in disgust and roll over in their graves!

This article is dedicated to men like Wolf Larson that NEVER have anything worthy to add to a topic at hand! Be complacent in your dumbed down life!

Where Have All the ‘Men’ Gone?
By Devvy Kidd

My comments here exclude those men who have stepped forward with incredible courage since 1913 to face this tyrannical government, and like our Founding Fathers, have paid an enormous price both personally and financially. People like Bill Benson, our fine gentlemen down in the great State of Tennessee and too many others to list.

Americans forget that the Founding Fathers were the "moneyed class" back then. They were farmers, merchants and men of means. They had a lot to lose, both in land and gold. Yet, they didn't hesitate to step forward against the most incredible odds to build a free nation, not just for themselves, but for their women and children.

My comments are directed at the men of this country, who over the past decades:

Sit back in their easy chair reading Newsweek or spend their time bare chested at a football game, well filled with suds to maintain those obscene beer bellies, while they have put their wives and children at risk. This nation is being invaded wholesale with illegal aliens who come into this country and kidnap, rape and murder our women and children. Some are caught, most are not. Why do the men turn a blind eye in pursuit of good times?

These same men will go vote for the same politicians, state or federal, over and over, who refuse to stop this massive invasion of our country putting their women and children at risk. These same men continue to idolize their party "leadership," while that same leadership refuses to stop this invasion of global riffraff, turning America into a third world dumping ground. These same men would rather spend time, not banding together and having a serious discussion with these politicians, but rather put on their expensive gear and go ride their bike up a mountain, see the latest Broadway show or take a day off work to stand in line to buy tickets to the new Star Wars flick. Why is this?

Today the men in this country sit around watching mindless trash like Survivor or Friends on the boob tube, instead of shouting down the roof against state and federal systems that are utterly and completely rotten beyond redemption. Systems and agencies that are putting their women and children into a state of involuntary servitude for all their lives. Instead they sit back with nary a whisper while state and federal judges to uphold this carnage against the people. Why is this?

Black robed judges continue to hand out welfare and benefits to illegal aliens who are legally entitled to nothing but deportation. Instead of holding their elected public servants accountable for this insanity, men just get up in the morning, go to work at the company store, then return home in the evening to their false sense of security. Why is this? Back in 1776, this breed of men would be called cowards.

Today men will spend endless hours with their stamp collection or at the bowling alley while Congress after Congress continues to pass unconstitutional legislation that deprives their women of their God-given rights - all because their "party" says it's good for our "democracy." Why is that?

Today men will ignore the documented truth that the state and federal governments are all in collusion to bring America into a one-world government, but they will believe any lie that comes out of the mouth of their favorite radio talk show host or TV anchorman. Today men are desperately clinging to their comfort zones while their women and children are at risk from a police state being erected around them. Why is this?

Today men will stand for hours on end feeding one-armed bandits in gambling casinos, while the Bush Administration's henchmen (Ashcroft and Mueller) continue to strip their women of their God-given rights, all in the name of "the war on terrorism." They are putting their children at risk by not demanding this government take the necessary measures to clean out the terrorists in this country, both Chinese and middle-Eastern. Why is this?

For decades, America's men think nothing of spending lots of money on music CDs or plunking down big bucks to attend concerts or jazz festivals instead of protecting their own families from state predators calling themselves "child protective services." Everyone with children is now a target. Why won't they band together and surround the state capitols and demand that this evil cease? Back in 1787, the men protected their women and children to the death.

For the older men, their grand children are targets of the state. But, these men have already served their country in the military and now it's time to spend their golden years in the Winnebago, they've done their part. After all, at Christmas they can show the grand children how much they love them by buying them "things" made in foreign countries. Why is this?

Today the men of this country will allow a sleezy, morally bankrupt individual like Bill Clinton get away with treason (selling our most sensitive national defense secrets to the Communist Chinese) because Clinton supports their women's "right" to kill their unborn babies. Back in 1854, this was unthinkable. Today, their blind loyalty is to their political party now instead of what's right. Why is this?

Today men think nothing of sitting down at the local bar every night during happy hour while their women and children are put at risk by agencies like the ATF and FBI making no knock, bust down the door on the wrong house raids, killing innocents inside. It's happened and it will continue to happen. A hundred years ago, this would not have been tolerated in a constitutional Republic because the men would not have stood for it, not for a minute.

While their women and children continue to live in a state of bondage to a tyrannical government, the men simply write checks to the RNC or the DNC, thus encouraging those scoundrels to stay on the same path of the planned destruction of this Republic. By writing a check instead of storming the gates, this gives those men more time for the golf course, doing recreational cocaine or surfing the Internet for countless hours enjoying that great "adult" American pastime called pornography. Their harmless pastime does put their women and children at risk out in society, but they no longer care. Why is this?

While the IRS bleeds a family dry, forcing the woman into the workplace and leaving the children to be raised by strangers, many of whom are pedophiles, the man of the house spends his free time doing the "guy thing" at a NASCAR speedway. Why is this? Why won't these men stand up to this rogue agency called the IRS?

Over the past 40 years, the men of this country have sat back and allowed themselves to be brow beaten into submission and castrated by so-called "feminists" like Rosie O'Donnell and Hillary Clinton (although I defy anyone to show me one single feminine attribute of those females) instead of stand up and saying, "Hell No!"

Hard core feminists aren't out there for equal pay, they're out there to destroy the male and the family unit. How it must gall them that the only way lesbians can "impregnate" their female lovers is artificial insemination by a male sperm.

Over the past 40 years the men of this country have put their material objects and addictions before the well being of the women and children by kowtowing to every special interest group in this country in the name of "political correctness" or for government hand outs. Our nation was built by men who were self-reliant, independent and strong. Today they are tolerant, sensitive and genuflect at the feet of perverts called "gays." Why is this?

The men of this country have laid down their arms in favor of political correctness, declaring open season for two-legged predators on their women and children. Instead of surrounding their state capitols armed to the teeth in defiance of such unconstitutional machinations on the part of cowardly and mentally impaired politicians, instead they grovel on their knees to the likes of Diane Feinstein. This sad state of affairs was unheard of in 1905. Why this inability to resist tyranny now?

PC is a cancer on this nation that has turned a Godly nation into a moral sewer. These men have put their children in harms way via mandatory social indoctrination in the anti-God public school system. Why is this?

The men of this country will go to extraordinary lengths to find the right fishing hole, but they refuse to lift a finger to ensure that their women and children will not be forced into global citizenship under the UN. Why is this?

The men of this country will sit in front of the computer playing games while women and children in different parts of this country are being driven off the land by Nazi-style federal agencies. So what if their fellow countryman will lose his land, his wife and children thrown out into the street? After all, those families in Klamath Falls and too many other places have nothing to do with these other men's lives, so why should they give up any of their free time to stand up to the government to help them? Why is this?

Women in this country spend hundreds of millions of dollars every year on "romance books" whose pages are filled with knights in shining armor and genuine heroes coming to rescue the damsel in distress. Why do you suppose that is?

Why do you suppose the men are allowing their women and children to be put at risk in all the ways described above?

Why are the women the ones out there on the front lines battling this government tooth and nail for our children - ready and willing to die if necessary to protect our own?

Because America has lost it's manhood.

Repeating:

quote:
I hope this is not an invitation to blast the United States or Bush or joke about how or government is corrupt.

It seems the question was missed. What are we doing right and what are we doing differently than the rest of the world that enables the U.S. to do so much better than everyone else? I'm not looking for negatives here of what we all think is wrong with the government. I'm looking for positive affirmations of what has made us so successful?

Know-This, if you are going to spam a thread with long cut and paste posts, you should do it like Halva is doing over on the Arianna on-line forum, translate it into a foreign language!

I guess one retard follows another. Wolf you haven't once added an intelligent post that i have seen since I've been in here.

In fact that was the dumbest post to date I've seen!

Ummm..I believe I ANSWERED YOUR QUESTION Letxa in ONE sentence.

LETXA: Q:"Is the United States and/or Americans somehow better than the rest of the world?"

MECH: A: "I think AMERICAN CITIZENS are doing great and most of them want an HONEST, UNCORRUPTED government.

BUT if you don't think THAT is a good enough answer...

THE CONSTITUTION and THE BILL OF RIGHTS are the #1 Reason why America is the best in MY OPINION.Something GLOBAL CORPORATIONS and CORRUPT US GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS ARE BUSY DESTROYING for their NEW WORLD ORDER.

But let's just IGNORE that...right Letxa? Let's just RAHH...RAHH...we're #1..the government is good and would never do any wrong..right?

HISTORY proves you unoquivocably WRONG if you believe that.

By the way...The USA is NOT Mexico..and I for one WON'T stand by and let VINCENTE' FOX shove his RECONQUISTA policies down the American peoples throats...I'm going to EXPOSE him for what he is...and that simply is A GLOBALIST. JUST LIKE"Senor'" BUSH.

Oh really, it's not ok to oppose your viewpoints now? That’s all you’ve ever offered me is opposition & negatives to anything I’ve ever said. Do you think that was what I was looking for? Why should I now care what you want?

Dontchya know? You gotta play by Lex's rules.

Just because he is all over the board doesn't make us right. I guess we all have to adapt and adjust to his world.

Lets all reaffirm Little Lexy. Everyone join in please.

Lex, you are soo right about everything. i had no idea I was so stupid about chemtrails and everything. You have opened my eyes. I just clicked my heals together 3 times and said "there are no conspiracies, there are no conspiracies"

I'm just was too dumb to know that things cannot be true without you seeing the facts and deciding whether or not they meet your standard.

Gee wiz lex, your great. this whole forum is useless. It should probably be shut down dontchya think? HUh? gone for good. So we can all sleep better knowing there is no evil and that all is good.

Wow, i feels so happy now that you have opened all of our eyes. To think I wasted 3 years of mine on something that does not exist. boy is my face blue.

The rest of you should wake up to and see that LEX is the king. if you wanna know anything about the world or even your personal life...Lex is the last word for all.

all praise Lex.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Yes, I saw that. But it doesn't answer the why. Mexicans want an honest, uncorrupted government, too. But theirs is much more corrupt than ours. And Mexicans aren't doing nearly as well as Americans. So what is different?

quote:
THE CONSTITUTION and THE BILL OF RIGHTS are the #1 Reason why America is the best in MY OPINION.

I agree. But that alone isn't enough, apparently. Mexico's constitution has virtually identical rights as those guaranteed by our Bill of Rights. Heck, theirs even guarantees education and health services. So those rights alone apparently aren't enough to automatically make a country successful.

I don't believe that. I even asked in my first post if, perhaps, the reason we do so well is because we've taken advantage of other countries. That'd be "wrong" and I recognize the possibility. I'm not looking for "rah rah we're #1." I'm just looking for the reasons, be they noble or not, of why we're #1.

What are good things about America?

Just had to chime in! Was holding myself back, but now I can't resist!

National Parks -- filled with cell towers and many owned by other countries
Yosemite=Japan
(links can be found by a search on this site and on google)

Beaches --- eroding and showing signs of pollution
(links can be found by a search on google)

Great Airlines and Airports -- long checking in lines and delayed flights

Wal-Mart -- corporate robber barons, outsourcing, bad working conditions, sexual harrasment of females, causing small businesses and large to go into bankruptcy, outsourced labor on products

Great Public Schools -- teachers not allowed to move to other states without losing pay, low pay scale, crumbling buildings, overtesting in many states, poor children left behind, homeschooling started, vouchers pushed in many states, uneven curriculum, trying their best, some teachers burned out, mainstreaming of special education students with not enough funding backing it (depends on state)

Pristine Mountain Peaks -- overflown by airliners and odd clouds from spraying

The American Dream -- owning a home will soon be out of reach for young families, building products rife with human-harming chemicals, urban sprawl disregarding space for humans and animals, minority exclusion on loans

Free Speech -- freedoms eroded, FCC monopolies controlling television and some struggle to start independent and liberal media channels, newspapers selectivity on placing "letters to the editor", suppression of dissenters

Freedom of Religion -- freedoms waning with legislative pushes for the combining of church and state

Clean Abundant Water -- some sources cleaned up, environmental restrictions loosened, fights over headwaters, change in climate affecting snowfall and headwaters, not enough gov. support on salt to freshwater filtering companies, push to privatize

Affordable Insurance -- that's a laugh!

Cable TV -- a hope, but expensive and not attainable for the poor

Satellite TV -- a hope, but expensive and not acquirable for the poor

Jobs -- hard to find, manufacturing outsourcing, technology outsourcing, highest rate of unemployment with the largest population so far, overtime pay slashed, minimum wage not enough to live on for a single mother and child

Colleges -- rising expenses, questions of fairness in admittance, lowest government financing help in years

Plastic Surgery -- a multi-million dollar business for the middle and upper class, a beauty ethic creating young women with body image problems and eating disorders, death to some

Good Food -- polluted with chemicals, GM foods not proven good for health, only organic farmers and those who can afford to buy organic can be actually well-nourished, milk containing chemicals, poultry containing chemicals, beef not regulated containing chemicals, fish containing mercury and farmed fish containing PCBs.

Great Hospitals -- overcharge, overlook the poor in organ transplants, only the rich get good hospital care, underpaid and understaffed nursing, insurance companies raise premiums and offer less, doctors have to pay outrageous mal-practice premiums, drugs not covered by most policies without extra coverage, outrageous hospital fees, many hospitals charged with corruption, many rife with staff infections

Movies and Plays -- a huge industry making millions and offering many a respite from their harried lives

Sports -- entertainment costing ticket holders millions, creating heroes out of humans, can be wholesome entertainment, for children and teens an excellent outlet and hobby, for adults an excellent outlet and hobby

Fitness -- for those who can pay and have the time, all fitness gyms and spas are a good and healthy thing

Plenty of cheap housing -- not!

Natural Birthing Practices -- good !

Libraries -- Good, but invasive PA rules tend to dampen such

Kinkos and like -- Yay!

Home Depot and Home Decorating -- Great, but only for the middleclass and upper class

Support Groups -- You can find any kind for any addiction or reason for support -- GREAT!

Books -- Fantastic! Written to motivate, to entertain, to enlighten, to spread knowledge, to express philosophies, to promote beauty in the world -- not just to make money!

Music -- GREAT! More musicians and than ever! Many more symphonies, more production companies, more home production capabilities

Women's Rights -- lost steam over the past three years, many women execs, more freedom of choice for careers and child rearing, but dwindling freedom of choice

Plentiful Energy -- push to privitize and deregulate energy systems, co-ops good, alternative energies good, but not enough gov. funding of alternative energies, over consumption of household energies, cars and trucks depending on fossil fuels, dependence on oil causing wars and pollution

Privacy -- dwindling

Great job satisfaction -- increasing stress, office politics disturbing, very few daycare opportunities and extremely expensive, male- dominated business culture still critical of mothers' responsiblities, poor ethics in management, some managers good, some companies provide exercise options, some don't.

Fair Income Tax -- not

Social Security -- dwindling

Rental Cars -- big business, nice option

RVs -- fun, but gas hogs! Expensive!

Wineries -- the finer part of life

Herbals -- easy access to now, threatened by large movements in the UN

Cheap Pharmaceuticals -- not! bill on floor of Congress to allow Canadian imports

Great Weather -- not anymore

Beautiful Forests -- endangered by fire every year!

Zoos -- love them!

Museums -- wonderful !

Humane Societies -- nice for animals but notice the lack of humane housing for people, more homeless than ever across the nation

Peace and Environmental Organizations -- super!

Toys! -- great toys, except for the military and gun related ones!

Non-profits -- great idea!

Life long education -- super idea!

Democratic Republic with liberty and justice for all -- what? being dismantled as I write

______________________

Well, I'm sure for each topic a whole paper could be written and I probably left out a lot, but that's my take!
