We scored a major victory in our fight against amending the Constitution to allow for the appointment of members of the U.S. House. On April 22, 2004, the U.S. House overwhelmingly passed the Continuity in Representation Act (H.R. 2844) by a vote of 306 to 97. Congressman Ron Paul was an original cosponsor of H.R. 2844 and The Liberty Committee worked to get it passed.
On June 4, 2003, the political elite launched their well-financed scheme. On June 20th, we started the counter offensive. They want appointed House members. We want elected House members. On July 23rd, we brought in Professor Charles Rice from Notre Dame Law School to brief members of Congress and their staffs. Sarah Foster of WorldNetDaily.com has chronicled our efforts from the beginning. The recent victory your support made possible means that should a terrorist attack kill 100 or more House members, H.R. 2844 will require states to hold expedited elections -- not appointments.
"The People's House" is safe, for now. But the political elite won't give up -- they are still pushing for a vote on their constitutional amendment which we'll continue to fight against tooth and nail. But for now, savor your victory. Thank you for your help!
