There is a reason it was against the law (1800's) to sell guns to Indians.
Armed people can put up more resistance.Millions of Indians found that bows and arrows fare poorly against guns.
-Thirteen million people were LEGALLY arrested, transported to camps and murdered by Nazi Germany.
How many of those 6 1/2 million Jews wished they had a gun to "kill just one" of the German State Police/(Gestapo)or their SS murderers before they died?
-Twenty five million Russians vanished into Stalin's camps.
Alexander Solzhenitzen stated in "Gulag Archipelago" that a great many dreamed of the Soviet police (Cheka/GRU/KGB etc.) facing armed resistance when they kicked down doors and arrested citizens for criticizing their leaders.
Instead unarmed citizens were legally arrested tried and sentenced to work themselves to death in Siberian camps.
-Millions of unarmed Chinese were murdered by the Red Guard, while Police and Soldiers stood by and did nothing to save them.
The gun issue has NOTHING to do with hunting!
At the same time Soviet police were arresting people for criticizing their leaders,
Soviet citizens hunted with guns bought in state stores and were issued gun and hunting permits.

Until 1934, machine guns, explosive devices, sawed off shotguns, large bore weapons, were not illegal under federal law.
Unfortunately the 2nd Amendment does allow states to pass restrictive laws, so long as citizens can still own firearms of some kind.
My .50 caliber black powder rifle could be converted to .50BMG in one day, with lots of time left over after the welding and machining.
Laws can only disarm law abiding citizens!
The BATF museum displays .45 Thompson submachine-guns which had been cut in pieces with a torch and thrown into the Atlantic Ocean.
Someone fished out the pieces, welded and machined them back into working just like brand new.

Let the idiots legislate .50BMG rifles out of existence and someone will weld heavy wall 1/2" water pipe into a barrel, and make a receiver from a chunk of tool steel.
It gets done in New York City, probably daily, as "zip guns" are handmade.

A car or truck axle and a lathe, trial and error or skilled machinist, sooner or later somebody makes a gun, at home, basement or garage.
The American colonists and the Viet Cong proved that the mightiest army in the world can be defeated by citizens determined to fight and die for their cause.
Germans learned the hardest possible way that meekly submitting to being disarmed opens the door to the unchecked abuses of a police state.
Of course Germany was governed by conservative nationalistic anti-communist rightwing politicians who decided citizens who criticized them were unpatriotic.
That can't happen here!
We can give up our guns without any rational reason to fear our government!
Because, unlike Germany;

And, so far, our government only holds a few thousand people in prisons, without trials, lawyers, or even a phone call.
