Currently there is moving scam going around involving Isreali owned moving companies. I think its worst around the east coast, especially FL.Basically they will low ball an offer for moving service, then once at the destination, they say they did not charge enough based on the weight and then demand a lot more money or they will not release the items. If you use a service, be very sure it is not one of those.

I heard just yesterday that complaints about US moving companies with interstate moves have gone up 1000%. Companies are holding people's stuff and claiming that they owe more more more because of silly things like the street is too narrow, etc. Some have wound-up paying 5 times the original bid to get their things back. Governent deregulation has helped this become the problem it is.

About two years ago I think 24 hours or some investigative report show did a thing on this. They actually had hidden cameras and asked specific questions and got on offer. Then when the moving company said they owed more, they basically fought with them and then finally paid the extra fees to get their stuff released. Then they went to the owner with the video and confronted him. It was pretty hilarious watching this guy squirm. So I know this has been going on for a while, but obviously has gotten much worse. Oh well, when in doubt, go with a large nationally known company, or better yet - do it yourself. LATE

Problem is these nationally known large companies are subcontracting to little unknown companies that are responsible for the problem...
